Labour Leadership Challenger Launches Campaign in Manchester
John McDonnell MP will launch his nationwide campaign for the leadership of the Labour party in Manchester tomorrow (Thursday 7th September).
John will address a public meeting at 7.30pm in the Mechanics Institute, 103 Princess Street, Manchester M1 6DD. Other speakers include Tony Benn, Jeremy Dear (General Secretary of the NUJ) and Alice Mahon.
On the eve of the meeting, John said:
"Tony Blair has let it be known that he will stand down within the next year. This meeting will launch a national campaign for a radical break with the failed policies of New Labour. Simply changing leaders will not be enough to save Labour at the next election.
"We need a new direction and a new policy programme. This meeting will bring together socialists, trade unionists and Labour supporters to begin a sustained challenge for Labour's future."
