John McDonnell MP: Another World Is Possible

Gordon Brown Should be Advised that Endless Publicity Relaunches Just Wont Work.

Another week and another relaunch of Gordon Brown. Someone needs to advise him that endless publicity relaunches just won't work. This week's relaunch is particularly ineffective as it completely undermines the green credentials he tried to establish with his environment speech last week. Backing expansion of Heathrow, promoting nuclear power and weakening our environmental planning controls patently contradict the commitment to tackling climate change he asserted in last week's relaunch as well as diverting resources away from much needed investment in alternative energy.

As James Rubin just said on the Daily Politics we need someone with more direction and charisam than Brown at the helm in times like these (child benefite identity fiasco and so on..) - but someone with some decent policies as well. Takeover bid anyone?!!!

John, you haven't mentioned his draconian welfare reforms, today
Brown has just announced harsh new welfare reform measures which wouldn't look out of place in the most reactionary US states, its basically 'a war on the poor'. The language he uses makes him sound like some 19th C workhouse manager, the fact they he announced all this at the Bosses conference, says it all. Where is the anger? what part of the PLP is speaking out against these reforms.

"Recharging the batteries of the 500 at a domestic outlet takes a few hours for a full recharge but, in normal use, you don’t completely discharge the batteries, so that about one hour and a half is sufficient. At the present prices of electricity in Italy, a complete recharge costs about Eur 1.2. Since we have a range of about 100 km, it follows that the cost per km of running the car is about 1/5 of what was the cost using gasoline. We also have charged it using the energy produced by the PV panels on the roof of Ugo Bardi’s home. In that case the cost of the recharge is strictly zero"...

"National Shop Stewards Network – Founding Basis"

"A National Shop Stewards Network should be set up on the following basis:"

"1. Participation and support is a matter for individual TUC affiliated trade unions."

"2. The National Shop Stewards Network will be made up of bona fide rank and file TUC affiliated trade union workplace representatives. The participation of full time trade union officials would be as observers with speaking rights."

"3. It would not encroach on the established organisation and recruitment activity or interfere in the internal affairs and elections of TUC affiliated trade unions or the functions of the TUC."

"4. The aim of the Network would be"

"• To offer support to TUC affiliated trade unions in their campaigns and industrial disputes;"

"• To offer support to existing workplace committees and trades councils."

"We support the establishment of a steering group of ten trade unionists from this conference. The role of this steering group would be to organise a formal delegate conference in the spring of 2007, open to all TUC affiliated trade union shop stewards, to establish a National Shop Stewards Network as outlined on the basis of points 1-4 above."...

"Now, The Observer newspaper is reporting that Blair’s successor, Gordon Brown, will also support a new generation of nuclear plants in the UK. [3]"
http://observer.guardian.co.uk/politics/story/0,,2084016,00.html

"What makes this decision politically sensitive, is that Gordon Brown has close family connections to the nuclear industry. His younger brother Andrew Brown works for EDF Energy, the UK subsidiary of EDF, which is one of the leading companies pushing for a nuclear rebuild programme in the UK."

"The Labour Government is also speeding up the planning process, making it easier for nuclear power plants to be built. Planning Minister, Yvette Cooper has already had to fight off criticism of "nuclear cronyism" due to her father's links to the nuclear industry too."

Just looking on here with the Welfare to work program which is Blair's American copy removing the American protection, you can see how much interest we have in it.

One MP voted against the Welfare reforms, one Labour MP voted against it so blame them all for allow people to hit the sick and the disabled.

You mention to any MP about welfare and they will wonder off onto a debate about what not sure Fiats.

most of the PLP sold out when the Blairites reduced benefits to single parents soon after they took office - the MPs like John that refused to go along with this are I expect they correspond with the only Labour MPS we still have with any integrity left. Has anyone got a list of who they were?? Actually I might have myself in one of my books!

How much are all these Brown relaunches COSTING we wonder?!
