Speeches at Trident rally and People's Assembly
Below I've included two speeches I've made in the past week or so - one at the rally against Trident, and the other at the Stop The War People's Assembly.

While John does have to create the broadest support, attending the SWP front that is the STWC might not be the wisest move. The Trots in the SWP as i'm sure John is aware of, do not have the interests of the labour left at heart. They are also a group who apparently support the 'resistance' in Iraq, etc and who are quiet on Darfuf, Checheyna, etc.
Sorry for the criticism, but i was involved with the Socialist Alliance and the European Social Forum and saw how they work close up.
ask the UN if the iraqis are allowed to resist. also, what john said about the IRA - much further than the SWP ever went over the North of Ireland.
but just keep repeating your intuition and received wisdom. never know, you might make it true.
The StWC do not support the Iraqi resistance or the Chechen resistance. It's true that there are individuals that do (i'm not one of them) but i was at the last AGM of the StWC and there was a vote on some crazy motion calling for the StWC to "show solidarity with and call for the victory of the heroic Iraqi resistance" or something similar.
It was voted against by about 10 to 1 - it didn't even come close to passing. Rose Gentle and other Military Families against the War people are members - they lost their children in Iraq. They and the StWC do NOT support our troops being killed.
So , anonymous, (while i disagree with the SWP on a lot of things too) please don't spread false claims about the Stop the War Coalition. Their position is pretty much identical to that of the UN - that there's a right to resist occupation but no right to attack civilians.
Personally i dont support the Iraqi resistance because 1) some of them target civilians and 2) it would be betraying our own troops who were lied to , sent in without enough equipment and many of who dont want to be there.
The one thing the StWC have as a solid policy position is that they want the troops brought home safe - they do not want them killed - especially as Military Families Against the War are members of the StWC. So no more false propaganda please.
