Endorsements update

You can see the latest additions to the endorsements page here.

My thanks to my colleagues Ann Cryer MP and Neil Gerrard MP for their messages.

I was also delighted to hear that the Greater London Association of Trades Union Councils voted unanimously to endorse the campaign last week.

I'll let you know when we next update the endorsements page. Once again, my thanks for all of your support.

What is going on here?? Meacher says he has the support of 25 MP's and is expected to pinch 15 from McDonnell's nominees...

See link

He can't be that deluded can he. John now has 13 MP's who said publicly they are nominating him (including himself). This excludes people like Jeremy Corbyn and Katie Clark who have also endorsed him at meetings.

Is the guy goin completely bonkers are is there somethink we don't know???? I heavily suspect it is the former. This egotism is all well and good if a left wing candidate had the 45 in the bag. Considering the knife edge situation we have here this behaviour is getting to the stage where it is totally out of order.

Either Meacher wants to have a socialist challenge to Brown (if so he should step down) or he is not interested in that and just in his own egotism.

I know for a FACT that he was telling MPs he had 40 MPs in the bag last week.

This Torygraph article isn't unhelpful because he shows to any MPs who had any doubts that he's a) a liar and b) unhinged.

The Guardian article revealed what everyone in Parliament already knows - the Meacher camp is "dead in the water".

The guy is a JOKE!

It's very unfortunate it's come to this. I completely understand where everyone's coming from here, but I wish Michael could have been persuaded to withdraw with dignity. However, nobody could say that people didn't try to offer ways out.

It is a bit cringe-making though.

So did I, Duncan, so did I.... (you only need to read some of my posts at LabourHome to find proof of that!)

But obviously the guy is completely self-deluded and his ego must at this point have been inflated to (more or less) the size of a hot air balloon...

Michael Meacher claims '200 nominations in the bag'

Michael Meacher promised one of the biggest upsets in modern British political history when he claimed to have received the nominations of around 200 MPs.

"I can confirm that at least 200 MPs at last count have agreed to nominate me," he told reporters. "John McDonnell, on the other hand, has minus 5 nominations. If that."

If confirmed, the claims will spark panic among Gordon Brown's leadership team who had themselves claimed to have over 200 Labour MPs signed up this week. It will also spell disaster for John McDonnell's campaign.

However, doubts were raised over the claims when it became clear that Meacher was unaware that only members of the Parliamentary Labour Party were able to nominate candidates for the Labour leadership.

One journalist who was shown the list claimed that 197 of the names were members of the Opposition. Among them were David Cameron, George Osborne, Oliver Letwin and Kenneth Clarke.

Interviewed at one of his country retreats, Meacher struck back at suggestions that Tory MPs were not eligible to nominate candidates for Labour leader.

"Believe me, I've spent months reading over the rules and nowhere does it say that Tory MPs cannot nominate me," he responded. "It would be flagrantly undemocratic to prevent members of other parties from nominating candidates. That so many Tory MPs wish to nominate me simply reflects how much respect there is for my unparallelled experience."

"I'm always seen myself as a cross between Winston Churchill and Clement Atlee," he added.

He also repeated controversial claims that the CIA could have been responsible for the Norman invasion of England in 1066.

"They could have scrambled fighter jets, couldn't they? Why didn't they? We're a NATO ally, aren't we? I'm not saying that they were behind it - I'm just asking questions. The families of the victims of the invasion have a right to answers."

Meanwhile, police have revealed that 123 Labour MPs have taken injunction orders against Michael Meacher.

"If he f*cking rings me again, I'm going to f*cking lamp the stupid w*anker," said one MP.
