New endorsements

We've just added a new round of endorsements of the campaign - click on the endorsements page to see them.

I want to thank everybody for their kind words. As we keep saying, this is a grassroots campaign and I hope that the endorsements reflect that.

If you want to send in a message of support for the campaign to go up on the endorsements page, email us at info@john4leader.org.uk.

We'll be adding more endorsements very soon, so keep coming back!

John,

Could you tell us how many MPs are supporting you?

How close are you to the 44 that are necessary?

Best,

Ed

Keep up the excellent work, your giving the left and the labour movement a real hope - and if you can tell MPs the same shocking truths about new labour that youve been telling us accross the nation I cant see how any could defend supporting Brown, it would require them to completely blank out the truth. i'm sure you'll get those votes.

Thanks for letting me know... I am a rather frequent visitor, so I guess it's only natural for me to get anxious when it takes more than, say, 20 minutes, for new endorsements to follow! :-)

Ed,

The latest I have heard from John is that he has about two dozen definites and is confident of getting the rest when nominations officially open.

I think we're all feeling quite frustrated with Michael Meacher at the moment though.

Good move - publishing a manifesto will give the Campaign an even greater credibility as far as its survival in aftermath of the contest ( in which, I am confident, John will make a splendid showing) is concerned!

John,
Whilst I will probably still vote for you in first place (brown 2nd), and I admire your courage in standing, I have to say I wish it hadn't been you who made the 'left' challenge! Personally, my dream ticket would've been Clare Short (probably the best politician of her generation i reckon) and Peter Kilfoyle, but that's life i suppose!

Every man is entitled to his own opinion I guess... but Clare has been a bit Short on principles lately.

Maybe i'm being unfair on her but she seems to me to have mainly been radical when she wasnt in the cabinet - when she was in it as International Development Secretary she pushed privatisation of aid programmes - and when the World Food Programme, Oxfam and others warned the bombing of Afghanistan was making drivers refuse to take aid trucks into Afghanistan in the middle of a famine she claimed they were lying.

She did resign over the Iraq war - and i respect that - better than e.g Hilary Benn, who didn't - but I'm a little bit dubious about her.

Clare Short ?????? I think not. Peter Kilfoyle has gone from right to left and still backs Brown against all logic.Sounds like the nightmare ticket to me......

hey, leave clare alone! she's feisty, compassionate, caring and passionate - all the qualities we want to see in labour politicians. plus she fully understands the problems we face and the need to tackle inequality etc - have a look at this: http://tinyurl.com/nw7n6
a great agenda for the left. i have no doubt that if a presidential election were held tomorrow, clare would win hands down - just see the reception she gets on question time etc she makes me proud to be british!

Yep, Clare's quintessially British - an alcoholic and a hypocrite.

She goes on R4 (while drunk) and says she's against the war, then doesn't resign and votes for it, then resigns and says she was misled.

With that judgement, who wouldn't want her? Eh?

I don't make any personal allegations against Clare. In fact, I have always had a lot of time for her. I once had a very weepy conversation with her about Blair (no,I wasn't drunk!)at the Bournemouth conference in 2003. She was great.I was so hacked off I went to the Campaign group rally and realised there were still left-wingers left in the Party.
I was REALLY disappointed when she left the Labour Whip and wrote to her. She sent me a two-line reply. Basically, had Clare stayed in the PLP it would (presumably) have been another vote in the bag for this campaign. What exactly has she achieved by leaving ?????? It was a bonkers thing to do.
For a clever woman, who I do think has profound principles, she does some very daft things.
